See the unspoiled beauty of the Aspotogan Peninsula. This area boasts fishing villages, seaside vistas and 10 beaches with the warmest water on the Lighthouse Route. Blandford is a fishing village at the head of the Aspotogan Peninsula on Highway 329, where one can still experience an operating fish plant where fishing boats are tied up. Across from the wharf, the former home of the Blandford Whaling Station can be seen, the only one in Nova Scotia.
Make sure you stop in Northwest Cove where fishing boats cozy up to wharves along the South Shore, reflecting teh area's heritage and current enterprise. Northwest Cove is one such fishing community along St. Margaret's Bay, which supports commercial lobster and tuna fishing.
Situated by the sea

The first settlers were Irishmen
Who did not prosper here
And about the time the Germans came
They had nearly all disappeared.
The Germans they came from rose Bay
And tilled the soil again
And the present people are the descendants
Of those hardy men.
Today shows the improvements
That time and work have done.
The people are of good morals
And are classed as number one.
