The fascination with Oak Island began in 1795. A teenaged Daniel McGuinnis found a circular depression on the ground and a tackle block hanging from a nearby tree. That's when he and his friends grabbed picks and shovels and started digging on the tiny island - one of hundreds along the coastline in Lunenburg County. Mysterious stone structures, incredible underground evidence, deposits of Coconut fiber and more have made Oak Island one of the "Seven Wonders" of the South Shore of Nova Scotia.
They gave up after digging down thirty feet, but the mystery has grown as subsequent treasure seekers went deeper, and deeper.
